Between June and August 2010, the Washoe County Health District identified 16 cases of the specific type of Salmonella Enteritidis, which has made recent national news, according to District Health Officer Dr. Mary Anderson. This is more than six times the number of cases normally reported during these months in previous years.
Recommendations for consumers to reduce the risk of Salmonella Enteritidis infection
On September 25, 2010, the Washoe County Medical Reserve Corp (MRC) in cooperation with Join Together Northern Nevada (JTNN) , the Reno Police Department, the Nevada Attorney General, the FBI, the DEA and a host of other agencies and organizations, are hosting the second annual Prescription Drug Round-up. The community is urged to round-up any expired or unused prescription medications and dispose of them at this event.
