Reno, Nevada. January 11, 2012. Washoe County is seeking individuals interested in serving on the Washoe County Animal Control Board (WCACB) to fill a four year term through March, 2016. The vacated seat represents District 5 so all citizens living in Washoe County Commission District 5 and are interested in the position are encouraged to apply. Commission District 5 represents the largest physical district in the county, including portions of Reno and Sparks, as well as Mogul/Verdi on the west, Sun Valley on the east and the North Valleys and is represented by Commissioner Bonnie Weber.

The WCACB is comprised of seven members; one from each commission district; one who has qualifications demonstrating knowledge in the care of and supervision of exotic animals; and one representative of a society for the prevention of cruelty to animals. Members are appointed by the County Commission to a four-year term and may serve unlimited terms. The WCACB exercises specific powers and duties in the consideration, approval, suspension, and revocation of exotic animal, and kennel and cattery permits within the unincorporated areas of Washoe County, the City of Reno, and the City of Sparks. The WCACB meets quarterly, the second Tuesday of the month at the Washoe County Regional Animal Services classroom located at 2825-A Longley Lane, Reno and the meetings average 2 to 3 hours in duration.
