About Commissioner Jung
Commissioner Kitty Jung was most recently elected by her constitutents to the Washoe County Commission in November of 2008. Commissioner Jung has served on the commission since her gubernatorial appointment in August of 2007. She represents District 3 which includes downtown Reno, West Sparks, Panther Valley, Golden Valley, the south end of Sun Valley and Raleigh Heights.
Commissioner Kitty Jung earned her Masters degree in psychology from Humboldt State University and has extensive community service and public relations experience. She arrived in the Truckee Meadows to serve as a lecturer in the Liberal Arts and Public Service Department for Truckee Meadows Community College where she earned a nomination for Teacher of the Year both years of her employ. She was also the business and community liaison for Sierra Nevada Job Corps, and most recently, served as a community liaison for the City of Reno.
As a Washoe County Commissioner, Kitty Jung considers public safety to be her number one priority. She is committed to ensuring that law enforcement and other public safety agencies have access to the resources they need to serve and protect our community. She also believes that responsible and sustainable development (economic, social, and environmental sustainability) is crucial in order to maintain and improve our quality of life here in Washoe County.
Particularly close to Commissioner Kitty Jung`s heart is the Nevada Humane Society, Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals and Washoe County Regional Animal Services. As both a pet owner and a foster-care parent for homeless animals, Kitty believes that caring for our community`s pets ensures a quality of life and dignity to all helpless in our community.
Commissioner Kitty Jung is committed to reducing Washoe County`s carbon footprint and has directed staff to develop a regional green team partnering with the Cities of Reno and Sparks and the Washoe County School District. She created new policy forbidding tax dollars to be used to purchase bottled water due to the excessive petroleum required and as an acknowledgement of the quality of water enjoyed in the Truckee Meadows.
Kitty lives in Old Northwest Reno with her husband Scott and her "children": Rescue animals Gretchen (dog), Neo, Trinity, JoJo, and Tortuga (cats). Also, they have 7 koi: Willie, Bruce, Ronin, Mossad, Israel, Shin Bet and Ethereal. The newest Jung additions are 3 hens (Isabella, Gianna and Maria) which will be solely pets with benefits (eggs).
