Seasonal Flu Information

  1. Seasonal flu vaccine will not protect you against the novel H1N1 flu. Likewise, novel H1N1 flu vaccine will not protect you against seasonal flu.
  2. Annual seasonal flu vaccination is recommended for the following people who are at higher risk of developing complications if they get seasonal flu and their close contacts:
    • Children ages six months through 18 years of age
    • Household contacts, caregivers and daycare providers of children less than five years of age, especially those who have contact with children less than six months of age

    • Anyone who wishes to reduce their chance of getting seasonal flu or transmitting it to others.
  3. Getting vaccinated against H1N1 at this time might be especially important for people who are traveling to areas where H1N1 is still occurring, and/or for people who are at higher risk of flu-related complications, but have not yet received the H1N1 vaccine.

People at higher risk from flu complications include young children, people 65 years and older, pregnant women and people with certain health conditions, such as asthma or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), diabetes, heart disease or neurologic disease.
