Smoking ban information

How are we doing?

96.5% of Washoe County's permitted businesses are in compliance with the Nevada Clean Indoor Air Act. Washoe County's smoking rates are also continuing to fall. At 18.7%, the smoking rate in Washoe County is lower than both the state and the nation for the second year in a row. The Washoe County District Health Department would like to acknowledge these business owners for making our community a healthier place to live!

About the smoking ban

On November 7, 2006, Nevada voters approved the passing of Question 5, also known as the Nevada Clean Indoor Air Act (NCIAA) (PDF, 26 KB). On December 8, 2006, the ban became statewide law. Smoking is now prohibited in all indoor spaces in Nevada, except: areas of casinos that prohibit children; stand-alone bars, taverns, and saloons that do not serve food; strip clubs and brothels; retail tobacco stores; private residences not used for child care or health care; and hotel and motel rooms if allowed by the operator.
