What We Do:
- Birth control counseling with most kinds of birth control available
- Pregnancy testing and counseling
- Sexually Transmitted Disease testing and counseling (with treatment as needed)
- HIV testing and counseling
- Testing and treatment of vaginal and bladder infections
- Counseling on teen's health (referrals given when needed)
Confidentiality
HEY TEENS! Did You Know?
Anything you say about sex, drugs, and feelings is CONFIDENTIAL unless you give us permission to share it.
But, if you tell us:
- You are being abused (physically and/or sexually)
- You are going to hurt yourself or someone else
- You are 13 or under and having sex
- You are are under 16 and having sex with someone 18 years or older
Your health care at the Washoe County Health District's Teen Health Mall is voluntary and confidential. This means that you are here because you have chosen to be here. It also means that no information will be given out about you without your written permission except as required by law or to provide services to you in compliance with Federal Privacy and Security Standards.
We have to report the following:
- Statutory Sexual Seduction (N.R.S. 432B.220): This means that if you are 15 years of age or younger and are having sex with someone 18 years of age or older and you tell us, we must report it to law enforcement.
- Lewdness (sex) with a child under the age of 14 (N.R.S. 201.230): This means that if you are under the age of 14 and having sex we will have to report this to Child Protective Services.
- Child Abuse and Neglect (N.R.S. 432B.220): This means that if we have cause to believe that there is any kind of of abuse or neglect of a minor occurring, we must report it to law enforcement.
- Some Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STDs) (N.R.S. 441A; STDs): If you have a positive test result for Chlamydia, Gonorrhea, Syphilis or HIV/AIDS , we will report the results (not your name) to the Health District for statistical purposes. In some cases, you may be contacted by a clinic nurse who will ask you to provide information about your sexual contacts in order to provide them with testing and treatment.
Cost Of Services
General Information About Fees:
- Collecting money for clinic services is important to keeping our clinic running.
- We ask that all of our clients to pay their fair share.
- We ask that you pay all or part of your bill at each clinic visit.
- Donations are always accepted.
Insurance:
- We do bill some insurance plans.
- We accept some types of Medicaid. Please tell us about your Medicaid when scheduling an appointment.
Low Cost Services:
- Our services are for individuals that don't have a lot of money.
- We provide quality care while keeping the cost of services low.
- Our trained nurses and Advanced Practitioners of Nursing provide services that are less expensive than physician services.
- We buy our medications and birth control in bulk so that they are less expensive. As an example, birth control pills range in price from $4.00 to $8.00 per month (depending on the brand). Even at $8.00 per month, the cost is less than what you would pay at the pharmacy.
Costs By Age:
17 Years Of Age Or Younger:
- The cost of of your visit to the clinic is based on your income.
- If you are working full-time there will be a fee for your visit; however, you can make payments (you don't have to pay it in full the day of your visit).
- If you are not working, or are working part-time, in most cases you won't receive a bill.
- Fees and donations help us to keep our clinic running.
18 - 19 Years Of Age:
- The cost of the visit is based on your household income (or the amount of money earned by everyone in your household). Depending on your household income you may receive a discount in fees.
- If someone is supporting you (family, boyfriend, husband or wife) we ask for household income and proof of that income (paycheck stubs, W-2 form, Income Tax Returns or verification letters).
- The average cost of a new visit is $60 and $50 for an annual exam.
- Fees and donations help us to keep our clinic running.
What To Expect
- All services provided at the Teen Health Mall program are provided by Advanced Practitioners of Nursing and are confidential.
- You will be completing paperwork and will get a physical exam.
- Routine gynecological exams include height, weight, blood pressure, hemoglobin (iron test), breast exam and Pap smear (in some cases) and a review of your new or current client information and information on birth control choices.
Postpartum Clients:
- If you have a normal postpartum check-up within 3 months of your appointment at our clinic you may not need another exam. You will need to bring two things with you to your first appointment at our clinic:
- a copy of your 6 week postpartum exam and
- a copy of your Pap smear results from the physician or clinic where you received your exam.
- If you have not received your postpartum check-up or if it has been more than 3 months, an exam will be necessary at the time of your visit to our program.
Birth Control Methods
Birth control methods in this program are:
- Birth control pills (The Pill)
- The "Minipill"
- Emergency contraception pill
- Depo-Provera (The Shot)
- ParaGard IUD
- Mirena IUD
- Diaphragm
- Natural family planning (Rhythm method)
- Condoms and foam
- Spermicidal gels and suppositories
