Embarrassment about urinary incontinence can keep people from seeking the help they need to cope with these types of problems, according to Patrick Brumley, RN, Washoe County Community Visiting Nurse. Brumley will present information Tuesday, Sept. 28 in the monthly Wellness Series of Workshops offered by Washoe Countys Senior Services Department. The September workshop Got to Go? will cover the causes, treatments and techniques to deal with urinary incontinence.
In an effort to ward off catastrophic forest fires in the Tahoe Basin and the region, Washoe County Commissioners adopted a resolution today urging the federal government to increase and make available new funds for forest fuel reduction and forest health programs.

Construction will begin this fall on the new regional animal shelter, despite a $2.8 million increase in construction costs. The Washoe County Commission decided at its meeting today that costs would only go higher if they waited for more bids on the project, so accepted the current lowest bid of $13.9 million for the facility.

Property owners can now find information about their parcels online through the Washoe County Assessors Office webpages. People now have direct access to the information without calling or writing to the Assessors office.
The Washoe County Registrar of Voters Office posted the final counts for the 2004 Primary election on its website at noon today after additional voting machine cartridges were retrieved. The Countys Election Certification Board is currently verifying the process and final results and is expected to provide official certification by tomorrow morning.
Washoe County Registrar of Voters Dan Burk reports that things appear to be going smoothly halfway through the first primary election day using touchscreen voting with a backup printed record. (The printed record is viewed under glass and retained by the County in case of a recount.)
There were a few anxious moments this morning as we turned on the machines and made sure everything was in proper working order, Burk stated. But everything seems to be running smoothly, and were getting positive feedback from the voters who appear to really like the new electronic voting.
