Washoe County Commissioners tapproved a contract with the Truckee River Flood Project and the City of Reno for temporary shelter for the overflow homeless population that cannot be accommodated at the City of Reno’s Community Assistance Center on Record Street during cold weather months.

At their special meeting today for the purpose of holding a public hearing on the budget, the Washoe County Commissioners adopted the 2009-10 budget that will begin July 1, 2009. The $334,908,310 general fund (operating) budget reflects a reduction in departmental overall spending by 11% in response to declining property tax and sales tax revenues over the past several years. The County’s 2009-10 total budget is $804,684,034, an 18% decrease compared to the 2008-09 total budget of $978,589,824.
Reno, Nevada. May 15, 2009. On May 11, 2009 the 2009 Session of the Nevada State Legislature passed and enrolled Senate Bill 14 which increases the fee for a Nevada Marriage License from $55.00 to $60.00.
At their regularly scheduled meeting today, the Washoe County Commissioners heard a budget presentation that recommends the $47 million projected shortfall for the 2009-10 fiscal year be met by reducing staffing levels by 14% and general fund spending by 11%. Tapping into $2.9 million in risk management fund reserves and using $4 million in savings from voluntary wage reductions also help meet the a budget deficit that is the result of unprecedented decreases in property tax and sales tax revenues.

New hours will be Tuesday-Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 12 noon and 1:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. The office will be closed from 12 noon to 1 p.m. for lunch on those days. Inspections outside of normal business hours will be available by advance appointment only.
