Small Claims Mediation

       In 1997, legislation was enacted to impose filing fees to fund a Neighborhood Mediation Center (NMC) in Washoe County.  The NMC can handle any type of dispute and is designed to provide conflict resolution services, including mediation, conciliation and referral services, at no charge, within Washoe County.    

       In court you will be given the opportunity to use mediation to resolve your case.  Mediation is voluntary, confidential and available at no charge.  The Neighborhood Mediation Center is working with the Reno Small Claims Court to provide mediation as an option to trial for resolving cases. 

       Mediators work with both parties to fully explore the nature of the dispute, identify the key issues involved, work together to build options and develop a solution that works well for everyone. 

       If you are able to resolve your case the judge will discuss your agreement with you immediately after the end of mediation.  If you are not able to resolve your case in mediation the judge will still hear your case on the date it was set.
