The Senior Nutrition Program provides one meal per day at four senior centers and six satellite sites; home delivered meals; assessments and screening; and nutrition education. Meals are provided in accordance with established dietary guidelines and food safety standards.
Participants must be 60 or older (or, if under 60, either attending with their over-60 spouse or living and eating lunch at one of the nutrition sites; or, disabled and living with a person 60+) and proof of age and/or status of living arrangements may be required. The daily suggested contribution is $2.00 per meal. Since the funding for this program comes from The Older Americans Act, anyone under 60 (not meeting the qualifications above) wishing to eat at any of the sites will be charged $4 per meal.
The following list identifies when and where service is available in group settings. With the exception of the Reno Center, reservations must be made by 9:00 AM on the desired day. Monthly menus are available.

Home Delivered Meal Program
To qualify, a person must be sixty years of age or older and unable to cook, shop, or attend a congregate meal site because of illness, incapacitation, or disability. Length of eligibility is determined by need due to health conditions. An initial assessment is conducted by a licensed social worker to determine need and/or eligibility. Eligible persons will be reassessed every six months.

There is no fee for meals, however contributions are requested (and gratefully accepted).
The cost to prepare each meal is $4.01. You may contribute a part or all of the cost of the meal. The suggested minimum contribution is $2.00 per meal. Since contributions make this program work, please contribute what you can.
No senior will be denied service due to an inability to pay.
Citing the rising cost of fuel as well as the surcharges and pass-along costs to purchase food and other items to run the home Delivered Meal program, Washoe County has been forced to modify food delivery services. While everyone who is qualified will receive meals for the week, those meals are delivered once during the week.
If a person receiving home meal service has questions or will have difficulty storing or heating the frozen meal(s), they should call the Senior Service Department at 775-328-2590.
Our fleet of delivery vehicles is state-of-the-art. Each vehicle is equipped with separate hot and cold compartments to insure that correct temperatures are maintained during the delivery process.
