2011 Digital Counties Survey Winner

Washoe County Wins First Place
2011 Digital Counties Survey

Washoe County was awarded first place in the category of populations between 250,000 and 499,999 in the 2011 Digital Counties Survey partnered with the National Association of Counties (NACo), a national program aimed at highlighting innovation and achievement in technology implemented by county governments.

The Technology Services department has focused on projects that allow Washoe County to use its resources efficiently and innovatively. Some of Washoe County’s innovative technology projects have cut costs and promoted regional collaborations such as:

  • Request Tracker - An open source Help Desk solution that tracks technology service requests while saving over $35,000 annually in maintenance costs
  • Virtualization - Creating virtual computer servers saves Washoe County over $1 million in yearly hardware and energy costs
  • KACE - An appliance-based management solution that reduces the costs associated with deploying PC's and software
  • E911 Next Generation - Washoe County is working with the cities of Reno and Sparks to implement the next generation of E911 technology. Future regionalization is possible as well.
